William Potter is the Associate Dean of Faculty Affairs at the Herron School of Art + Design at IUPUI. He received his M.F.A. degree in Painting from the University of Cincinnati’s school of Design, Art, Architecture and Planning (DAAP) and his B.F.A. in Painting and Sculpture from the Columbus College of Art and Design. In 2007, He received the Arts Council of Indianapolis’ Creative Renewal Fellowship. The fellowship allowed for travel to Germany to study the Bauhaus and travel to the Chinati Foundation in Marfa, Texas, to study the work of Donald Judd. He has exhibited his work nationally and internationally in Germany, Australia, and the United Kingdom.
Exhibitions include: “Materialize | Sculpture Using Digital Fabrication” at Wright State University and Purdue University, “Gesture Control: Work by Wesley Berg, Tyler Bohm, William Potter, and Shelby Shadwell” at the Contemporary Dayton, and “Art From The Heartland” at the Indianapolis Arts Center, “Chicago & Indianapolis, What’s the connection?” at the Zolla/Lieberman Gallery in Chicago, “Fiction (with Daylight Between Us) V.2” curated by Jeffrey Cortland Jones which traveled nationally and internationally, and “RNOP-Cincinnati: New Work New System” curated by Billy Gruner and Jeffrey Cortland Jones.
He lectures nationally on teaching methods and his creative activity. Lectures have included, “Hidden Forms Embedded Meanings” at School of Visual Arts Twenty-Six National Conference on Liberal Arts and the Education of Artists, “Merging Media: Hybrid Practices in the Studio” at the South Eastern College Art Association Conference in Sarasota, Florida and “Mind the Gap” at the Biennial Foundations In Art Theory Education Conference in Columbus Ohio.
